Codi Group

Ty Caredig Children’s Residential Homes

Background

Codi Group is widely recognised across Wales for delivering person-centred, high-quality care. Blue Heart Recruitment began supporting several of their services during periods of increased demand, providing reliable staff who could slot into the homes and help keep day-to-day routines running smoothly. Our role was simply to offer dependable cover when teams needed a little extra support.

Our Approach

From the beginning, we focused on consistency. Instead of sending a large mix of different staff, we built a small group of workers who suited the services and could return regularly. This meant the people we support saw familiar faces, and the permanent teams had agency staff who already understood the routines and expectations of the home.

All staff we supplied were fully trained, compliant, and prepared before stepping into the service, which gave managers confidence in their ability from day one. We kept communication straightforward and frequent, making sure the service always knew who was attending and that continuity was maintained wherever possible. By following Codi’s own standards and ways of working, our staff were able to integrate naturally without disrupting the flow of the home.

Outcome

During a recent CIW inspection, the services we supported received excellent feedback. Inspectors highlighted that all staff on duty — including Blue Heart workers — were confident, settled, and worked seamlessly alongside the permanent teams. The overall atmosphere in the homes was calm, stable, and well organised.

Managers later told us how well our staff had blended in, noting that their consistency made day-to-day operations smoother and helped maintain a positive environment during busier periods. Today, Blue Heart Recruitment continues to support these services with a small, dependable group of staff who know the homes well and contribute to the high standards Codi is known for.

Background

Expanding Horizons had been using a large national agency for most of their staffing across South Wales and Bristol. Blue Heart Recruitment were brought in at first just to help with the shifts the main supplier couldn’t fill. It started small — simply covering gaps where extra support was needed.

Our Challenges

Managers told us that while the big provider filled a lot of hours, the service was seeing a lot of different workers each week. This made it harder for people in the home to settle.
They also wanted quicker communication, better continuity, and staff who understood their routines. Nothing dramatic — just a smoother, more consistent experience for everyone.

Our Solution

We focused on doing the basics really well. We sent a small, regular group of staff who fit the service, not different faces every day. We made sure they shadowed properly and learned the routines. Our team kept communication clear and proactive, checking in weekly and planning ahead instead of reacting last minute. Reliability and consistency were the priority.

Outcome

The feedback from managers across multiple sites was immediately positive. They liked seeing the same Blue Heart staff back again, and the people they support felt more settled with familiar faces. Staff integrated well with the permanent team, picked things up quickly, and were regularly requested by name. Communication felt smoother and more personal. Because of this, Expanding Horizons moved Blue Heart from a backup supplier to their main staffing partner across South Wales and Bristol.

Background

Ty Caredig runs several children’s residential homes, each built around a therapeutic approach that focuses on safety, trust and consistency. They don’t usually use agency staff — it’s rare. But on the occasions when they were genuinely short and needed an extra pair of hands, they wanted an agency they could rely on. One that understood the sensitivity of children’s homes and could send staff who wouldn’t unsettle the young people.

Challenges

Because agency staff are used so sparingly, bringing new people into the homes has to be handled carefully. The Registered Manager explained that the young people notice everything: new faces, different energy, changes in routine. Anyone stepping in needed to be calm, steady and able to follow the home’s therapeutic approach.

They were looking for people who could build trust naturally, follow support plans properly, and fit the consistent, nurturing environment the permanent team had already created. Above all, they wanted continuity — the same workers returning, not a different agency face each time.

Our Approach

We were selective from the start. We only put forward staff with genuine experience in children’s residential care — people who were grounded, patient and understood how important consistency is for the young people.

Before attending shifts, staff were fully briefed on the routines, expectations and the individual needs of each home. We also created a small, trusted pool of workers who could return whenever support was needed, helping the young people see familiar faces rather than strangers.

Communication with the management team was straightforward, and we made sure every worker was fully compliant and trained to the standard expected in a therapeutic residential setting.

Outcome

The feedback from Ty Caredig was extremely positive. Managers told us our staff blended in well, respected the therapeutic way of working, and helped keep routines steady during busier periods. The young people responded calmly to the familiar workers, and the permanent team felt genuinely supported rather than disrupted.

Because of this consistent approach, the homes felt confident calling on us whenever they needed extra help, knowing exactly the kind of staff who would arrive.

Blue Heart Recruitment is the only agency that supports Ty Caredig’s homes.
