I am John Freeman, a Qualified Financial Advisor holding CeMAP, CeRER and DipFA, with experience advising on a wide range of financial services and products. Alongside my financial background, I have had a varied and hands-on career supporting vulnerable individuals, which has shaped the way I work today as a Director.
Before stepping into leadership within Blue Heart, I worked as a residential support worker, as well as a prison officer on a young person’s wing for five years and a police officer for eight years. These roles gave me extensive first-hand experience working with young people facing complex challenges, safeguarding concerns and behavioural difficulties.
I have completed Safer Recruitment, Safeguarding and Team Teach training, and I am also trained in conflict management and professional interviewing. Throughout my time in the prison and police service, I completed regular, specialised training in safeguarding, conflict resolution, missing persons, child sexual exploitation and County Lines. This has provided me with a strong understanding of risk, vulnerability and the realities many young people face.
I have worked in a range of children’s homes across England and Wales and have supported some extremely complex individuals. This experience has given me deep insight into the emotional, behavioural and developmental needs of young people who have experienced trauma, instability or difficult past experiences.
My background has enabled me to develop a strong ability to communicate effectively, remain calm under pressure and build trusting relationships with young people. These skills now underpin my approach as a Director at Blue Heart — ensuring that our teams recruit safely, supportively and with a genuine understanding of the people behind the roles.
